Flying out on Sat afternoon originally, but bad weather was coming in so I was able to catch the morning flight.
Arrived in Vegas by 11am. I took a shuttle to the Flamingo. As a Total Rewards member I was able to get in a shorter check-in line.
I did the $20 trick, but used a $50 instead & asked for a suite. It paid off!  Grin  Thanks Big MIKEY MIKE!  Kiss
I did check-in early telling her that I didn't mind waiting for a nice room to becaome available later in the day.
We got a mini-suite on the top (28th) floor (28151) None of the mini-suites face the strip. Instead the look out on the gardens & pools.
After reading some reports about the Toni Braxton sign messing the view it seems like a better option.
The room was large with a King bed, sofa & chair conversation area, another single chair area including floor lamp & table.
A small dining table & 2 chairs. Floor to ceiling window the length of the room (appx 35 feet). Bathroom was the hotel usual.
When my sister arrived Late in the night we headed to Bill's next door for some cheap food!
Lots of slots gambling & free drinks until 3am for me. Diana flew later in the day & stayed up another couple hours.
We didn't do much sleeping the entire trip!  Tongue

Hi Joann,

Awesome!  I'm glad that you were able to secure the suite!  Smiley  Did you have to do any schmoozing or was it a business-like transaction?  Was your sister impressed with the cool room?

Sleep is a serious commodity in Vegas; It is most often traded for more Vegas funtime!  Having a great room to crash in for a few hours before resuming the fun can be a vital part of the trip.  It sounds like it worked out nicely for you! Smiley

Yes there was a bit of schmoozing involved. The clerk was young (at 43 myself they all seem young, LOL!) mid 20's.
I was very excited & shared that I really wanted to have a nice place for us to stay in since it was special for us to leave the families behind
& be giggly sisters having fun together. Chatting it up I know helped because the first room numbers she was writing down were for 14 & 15 floor.
It was so nice to be on the top floor.
Joann

I'll add more on Wed.

Part II:
While I was waiting for Diana's arrival on Sat evening I saw alot of formal dress uniforms & found out there was
a graduation dinner for the Air Force. On Sunday Diana overheard me on the phone talking about it & remembered that a cousin's husband
was graduating from something for the Air Force. She & my Uncle were most likely in town too for that. Well, it took the rest of the day to catch up with each other on our cells phones... Yes they were all in Vegas & at the Flamingo & my uncle's room was 28129, down the hall from us. We had been passing by them the entire weekend! With so many hotels in the town & even being in the same hotel with so many rooms, but to end up only 10 rooms apart - so cool. We were able to get together the next morning before they flew out! Some of us hadn't seen each other for many years!
What a nice surprise!
We spent the rest of the day planning out how to use all our coupons & walking the strip.

Part III coming soon.

Part III - where we ate:
We tried the Bally's buffet on Mon but they were closed.
We also had a Ceaser's buffet coupon so we headed there. We had not planned to go there because
it is SO confusing to find anything in there! Including the way out! So Ceaser's is where we went & it was GREAT!
It did take asking 5 different people to find the buffet & no wait.
We also went to Paris' buffet for breakfast, but the line was so long (50 minutes) that we didn't get in till lunch.
We were not very impressed with Paris.
I also had gotten a Restaurant.com certificant for ENVY Steakhouse. This was one of the best meals I've had in my life!
Also a great deal since is was a $50 cert bought for $6!

Wow!  That is totally weird about your uncle being not only in the same hotel, but on the same floor!  The odds are insane!  I hope it was a lucky sign! Smiley

It was a lucky sign that we were to have a good time.
As usual the slots rec'd the bounty! lol!  Tongue
Maybe this Dec we can be brave enough to hit the tables where the money is.
Nickel & Penny slots is all we have the nerve for now. We are trying to hone our skills
for video poker.

Part IV:
Going to the ENVY @ the Rennisance Hotel required using the Monorail. We bought a 1 day pass for $9 (on sale).
We first went on Tues night, but Diana didn't feel well enough to stay so we rode the rail back. I didn't know that at the monorail station they have a coupon book you can pick up for free. It has a few good coupons in it. My plan was to use the monorail pass again on Wed (after Diana flew out)
to go to the Hilton & Star Trek. We went to the Hilton on our summer vacation but by the time Barry Manilow concert let out the trek stuff was closed.
Plans changed so we went back to Envy Wed evening to get our meal. It was great! Rode the rail back in time to get Diana on the shuttle by 9:30pm.
She had an 11:00pm flight back. My flight didn't leave until 7:30 the next morning so I walked the strip to check out the Grand Canal Shoppes.
Diana's not big on the shopping. I ended up in the Venetian casino after the shops closed & found a 9 line penny slot!  Cheesy Last night & money gone this was the perfect place to sit. It was late at night & the waitress kept the cocktails flowing! My last $5 lasted a few hours. didn't make much sense to sleep so I went to a couple more casinos to check them out for this year's trip!

End:
I was able to stay awake & catch my 5:30 am shuttle!
Diana had already landed @ Atlanta & was skipping her connection to Florida to spend Christmas with the family!
It was the best way to tie up our trip!  Grin
We baked cookies & enjoyed the season. We haven't spent a Christmas together almost 20 years.
Our parents came up & made it complete.

We did something so different & unlike ourselves & really enjoyed it!   Tongue
Dec 2008 can't come soon enough to see Vegas again!  Roll Eyes

Even weirder yet. When Diana flew to Vegas. On the plane from Atlanta to LV she pulled out a magazine from the seat pocket & a business card fell out.
When she picked it up it was someone from West Palm Beach (as is she) & the name seemed familar. She thought our parents knew them.
Well, they did. The men are in the Shriners together. They were in LV for some gathering & had flown from LV to home in the same seat!
Had a good chuckle about that when we all met them @ mom & dad's 50th anniv party in Jan.

Cool!  Another great example of The Interconnectedness Of All Things!

I'm a big believer that there is some explanation at a quantum level for coincidences.  Some coincidences and sequences of coincidences are just too improbable to have not been unconsciously influenced by the persons involved!

I have a book on reported coincidences.  One of my favorites was the guy who lost his wedding ring while fishing.  A year or so later - he was fishing in the same lake & caught the fish that happened to have swallowed the ring!

A woman's nose stud is found three days later.. When her fiance catches the fish that ate it!
