Hi Google,

No problem! I have heard a few stories of tactics that didn't work that I thought were clever...

A couple went to the front desk of one of the MGM properties and said that they planned to stay at that particular hotel during their next trip and asked if they could see all of the pool areas... They received a guided tour, but were disappointed that they were not given a pass to use the pools.

I have also heard of people placing reservations for a popular hotel and then showing up a day early and trying to get a pool pass to the guests only area... I thought it was a good try, but they were denied and told that they had to wait until they checked-in.

The different hotels do change room keys rather frequently... However, one thought would be to learn what the current room keys look like and then try to buy one off of Ebay to flash, if necessary.... Surprisingly, I know that this has worked at least once.

Best of luck!

Hi Google,

The policy has changed repeatedly over the past few years for the major chains. During remodeling or minor repairs, I have seen different hotels forge temporary alliances with neighboring hotels to allow their guests pool access.

Vegas is maintaining a decent occupancy rate despite the economy. However, you will find that most of the staff are doing what they can to accommodate customer requests. I believe that Caesar's guests would be welcome at most of Harrah's properties' other regular pools and you should not be hassled if they ask to see your room pass.

I recommend checking the pool websites of the Harrah's properties at http://www.caesars.com/total/las-vegas/pools/ prior to arrival. Some pools do have entry fees on specific days.

You could then ask at check-in and let them know which pools that you would like to check out and see if arrangements can be made before you attempt entry. Mentioning that you plan to post a trip report on the web when you get home might even open a door or two...! Smiley

If you are gambling at any of the properties, speak to a casino host and let them know where you are staying and that you are interested in visiting one or more of their pools. It may not be a normal comp, but if you are friendly and gamble for awhile at the table games, a pass to a 'guests only' pool may be arranged.

I hope this helps! Please let me know if I can provide any further info!

Hi Sara!

Sorry for the extreme delay in replying. I've been working 3rd shift for the past month and have not had as much free time as I would like.

I'm glad to hear that you will get to return to Vegas this year! Several people that I know that make Vegas trips almost every year keep telling me things like "we'll wait and see..." when I ask if they are thinking about planning a trip.

I think that you will like the New York New York hotel. The 20 dollar trick is also known to work a decent amount of time depending on what nice rooms that they have available. The roller coaster is a bit noisy during the day, and is a bit of a rough ride, but I have always had decent luck at their table games and roulette wheels.

Your dates are good. There is a big boxing match at the MGM Grand on November 12th, so you will be leaving town before most of the rowdy fight fans take over the casinos!

You've seen Penn & Teller, right? What type of show were you thinking of seeing this time?

If you want to stick with magic, a show that has really surprised a lot of people is Zen Magic. It is a family friendly magic show that incorporates dance, acrobatics, and mystical music as two Asian ladies amaze the crowd. Tickets are currently only being sold for shows through September 30th, but they may be worth considering if they are performing in November. I believe that tickets are sometimes made available at the half-price booths for same day shows which make the performances affordable. The major complaint against the show is that some folks feel that the full price of the tickets is too much...

http://www.youtube.com/v/NO4rr5bmolc?version=3&hl=en_US

If acrobats with your magic is not intriguing, David Copperfield will be performing at the MGM Grand in November. As the number one Houdini fan in the world, he can be counted on to provide a great show with some amazing escapes!

How about some mop tops, instead of magic? The Beatles: Love is celebrating their 5th year and currently offering 20% off of ticket costs!

I also know that Rod Stewart will be at Caesar's Palace on the 9th. If you are a fan, it could be worth seeing.

More shows should be announced and tickets will become available for purchase as November approaches. Thanks for posting and please let me know if you need any additional suggestions, or have any questions! Smiley

21 General Category / Las Vegas Hotel Promo Codes & Advice / Re: Super Bowl viewing on: January 20, 2011, 01:02:47 AM
Hi Mookie,

Las Vegas will be happening Super Bowl weekend! The NFL cracked down on Las Vegas Super Bowl viewing parties a few years ago and some casinos no longer have Super Bowl parties to comply with the NFL's crazy rules... (remember them going after a church a year or so ago?). If you want to view the game in one of the sportsbooks, you will need to get some seats early in the morning and camp out until gametime.

A lot of the hotels do have private parties for some of their guests as a way around some of the NFL rules. I think that the best idea would be to try to get invited to a private viewing party at your hotel . Ask the receptionist during your check-in, the casino host where you sign-up for a card, or a pit boss at one of the table games. Of the three, the pit boss may be the best bet. If you can sustain some playtime at one of the tables, you might be able to acquire some invitations to a private viewing party... If you would rather have something set up in advance, there are some other options that I like.

Right now, I really feel that one of the best places to watch the game would be Emeril LaGasse's Stadium. However, I am guessing that it might be sold out. You may want to call immediately if interested!

The Rockhouse will be having a huge party. It is a bit of a walk from Mandalay Bay, but is not too bad. They have $100 open bar packages, or $125 for open bar + all-you-can-eat. For info, check out: this link

Close to the Mirage, Rhumbar is having a big party. Food and drinks are included for a $125 charge. Check out some info at aaavegas.com.

You'd need a taxi or rental car, but the Crown Nightclub inside Rio is having a mega party! $50 entry or $100 entry with food + 2 drinks. You can get tickets at this site. Also inside Rio, McFaddens is having a $100 entry party.

Over at Planet Hollywood, for a price of $200 per person, you can party at Blondies. They still have some seats available at their site. I wasn't overly impressed with them the last time that I was in there, but it is sure to be a fun, loud, college-style bar party!

The place that I would recommend is Cabo Wabo near Planet Hollywood. All-You-Can Eat Football Buffet: Nacho / Taco bar, Wings, Dogs $50 per person $20 Coors light buckets. You have to email a guy to get reservation info, but it would be worth the effort. Cabo Wabo Cantina Las Vegas

I hope this helps! Let me know what you think.

Some numbers from the LVCVA provided by CNBC:

31.5 million visitors have come to Vegas in 2010.

Tourism is up 2.8% from 2009.

The average daily room rate is up 2.6% from 2009.

Hotel occupancy is at 84.9%

Weekend occupancy is at 91.5%

So, maybe there some hope that 2011 will be a better year...!

24 General Category / Las Vegas Hotel Promo Codes & Advice / Re: Nov. 1st - 5th on: October 10, 2010, 05:38:30 PM
Hi Sara,

I think that they are creative and entertaining, but some people just don't like them. Some of their antics can be a bit silly... I have seen Stomp! and it is kind of a similar situation where some folks felt like it was a total waste of money and others really enjoyed the show.

If you go into the show expecting to see some silliness and are able to, sort of, switch off your brain and just enjoy the show, it can be a fun time! If you are analytical, or can easily have your intelligence insulted by clownish behavior, you may consider leaving and going to the casino! Smiley

Overall, I think it is a positive experience for most people. If you plan on checking out a show, I recommend checking the day-of-show Tix4Tonight booth. They often have the best discounts for Blue Man Group. Best of luck!

Hi Sara,

Welcome back! You are just a few short months away from being in the best city in the desert!

Travelzoo currently has a good deal on Penn & Teller tickets for $45 + fees. The offer is valid through Christmas; so, it definitely covers your travel dates. Check out the details here!

This was the best deal that I found. A lot of the deals and coupons on the web are old and expired. I can't believe that Rio still has the 25% off coupon that expired in March still up on their site... Someone in charge should pay their webmaster to update the page! Smiley

Please let me know if I can be of additional help as November approaches!

26 General Category / Las Vegas Hotel Promo Codes & Advice / Re: $20 Trick at Bills Gambling Hall on: July 28, 2010, 09:42:39 AM
Hi Crazygirl,

Welcome to CasinoTripReports! Bill's Gambling Hall is a fun place with a great location! I have always seemed to have decent luck with the video poker machines there dating back to when the place was called Barbary Coast... Smiley

The $20 trick has been known to work nicely at Bill's. As long as they have availability, my guess is that you would either receive a nice room with a view of the Bellagio fountains, or one of their larger suites. The large suites on the 4th floor are exceptional with a dining area, sectional, and jacuzzi!

Please let me know if I can help with anything as you plan your trip! Best of luck,

I had to do some site maintenance and decided to change the look for the Las Vegas Hotel Specials Blog. I never really liked the old red/dark blue Vegas look...

Let me know if you hate the new look! Smiley

30 General Category / Las Vegas Hotel Promo Codes & Advice / Re: Nov. 1st - 5th on: May 04, 2010, 07:23:04 PM
Hi Sara,

The promos that I have found on the web that are directly for Southwest.com are mostly short term, or for other destinations. The price that you have found for Continental is also the best that I have located... I found a few sites that listed the initial price as lower, but once the taxes were added..it was the same price. It does not look like they have released any promo codes for their flights in awhile.

If you book with Continental, keep in mind that they are now charging baggage fees. You can check and pre-pay for the bags online to save a few dollars.

With Southwest, the bags fly free, but there is no assigned seating. So, you will likely want to check-in online before your flight to obtain a boarding pass that lets you board the plane early to make sure that you get two seats together. If you do choose to go with Southwest and could use an in-flight drink, Ebay is a good source for discounts on Southwest drink coupons! Smiley

I am not confident that prices will go lower.. You could wait and see if a flight-only promo is released at Southwest.com once their current offers expire and your dates are getting closer. Southwest has been known to 'stockpile' fuel to help keep their costs low, but it is possible that rates will rise if fuel costs go up.

My only other thought for saving on the cost would be that sometimes you can find Southwest Gift Cards at a slight discount online. I did a quick search and did not locate any today, but I have seen them on places like Plastic Jungle at discounted prices in the past...

I wish that I could be of more help! Please let me know if I can give any advice or provide any research to help make your celebrations perfect!
